Open-Source Finite Element Simulation with Code_Aster Using AsterStudy

A free online training for simulation engineers, mechanical designers, structural analysis students, and open-source enthusiasts.
Date: 15 – 16 June 2026
Format: Online
Event type / Level: Training | Level 2
Language: English
Cost: Free of charge

What is this event about?
With the integration of the AsterStudy module into Salome-Meca, the powerful open-source finite element software Code_Aster has become more accessible than ever. AsterStudy’s intuitive graphical interface simplifies both model setup and result interpretation, making open-source finite element analysis an attractive option for engineers and researchers looking for a robust and cost-effective solution.
In this free online training, Linz Center of Mechatronics will share its hands-on experience with Code_Aster. The course focuses on the Windows version and covers the essential steps involved in setting up and running a structural simulation through practical examples. The aim is to help more professionals discover the potential of open-source finite element software and lower the barrier to getting started.
Who is it for?
This training is designed for participants with an intermediate level of experience, especially:
- simulation engineers
- mechanical designers
- students in structural analysis
- open-source enthusiasts
Why should you attend?
Although Code_Aster is a mature, professionally validated open-source mechanical solver, many analysts are discouraged by the lack of accessible introductory material. This course closes that gap by presenting the software in a clear and beginner-friendly way, while also giving participants the opportunity to apply their knowledge immediately in hands-on workshops.
As a result, attendees will gain both a solid theoretical foundation and the practical confidence needed to use Code_Aster effectively in real engineering tasks.
Programme overview
The training covers the key aspects of structural simulation with Code_Aster, including:
- Introduction
- Salome-Meca
- Mesh
- Model Definition
- Functions and Lists
- Material
- Boundary Conditions and Loads
- Analysis
- Output
- Execution
- Post-Processing
- Q&A and Feedback
What is included?
All course materials will be provided to participants, including the presentation slides and the solutions to the workshop exercises. The participation link, course materials, and instructions for setting up Salome-Meca on Windows will be shared during the week leading up to the event.
